Former Chief Justice and Council of State member, Justice Sophia Akuffo, has sent a message of comfort and encouragement to her successor, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, following her recent and controversial removal from office.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, September 2, and monitored by Citi News, Justice Akuffo urged the embattled former Chief Justice to remain strong in faith, describing the ordeal as painful yet potentially part of a greater divine purpose.

“She should take heart. God sees, and sometimes when you go through certain things which you think have brought you to the end or to your knees, that could be far from the truth,” Justice Akuffo said.

She added that what seems like a setback may, in fact, be preparation for something greater.

“There could be bigger, better and greater needs that the Lord has in store. That is what I will tell her, and that is what I will send to her as a text message.”

Justice Akuffo further reminded Justice Torkornoo—and the wider public—that disappointments can often serve as redirections.

“When you are a believer, things happen today, yes, they have happened. So look to God and move on, and you will allow God to manage the rest.”

Her remarks come amid heightened national debate and political tension over the removal of Justice Torkornoo, a development many observers, including Justice Akuffo, have described as troubling for judicial independence.
