Mahama nominates Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as new Chief Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for appointment as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.

The nomination, announced in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, was made in line with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has been serving as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025. The Presidency described him as a jurist of “diligence and integrity” who has distinguished himself at every level of the judiciary.

“Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has, throughout his career, served with dedication at the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and now the Supreme Court. His intellect, impartiality, and unwavering commitment to justice have earned him the respect of the Bench, the Bar, and the wider legal fraternity,” the statement said.

The Presidency added that his “wealth of experience and long service on the Bench render him eminently qualified for the high office of Chief Justice.”
