The Minority in Parliament has called on the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam George, to account for the GH¢10,000 daily fine imposed on MultiChoice Ghana over the ongoing DStv subscription impasse.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Thursday, Deputy Ranking Member of the Communications Committee, Hon. Charles Owiredu Asuako, accused the minister of misleading the public and abandoning his initial demand for a 30% reduction in subscription fees.

“Since August 2025, Hon. Sam George has been advocating for a 30% reduction in DStv fees, but he completely abandoned this stance for what we all know to be ongoing promotional offers by MultiChoice,” he stated.
According to him, the imposition of the GH¢10,000 daily fine on MultiChoice by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for failing to submit pricing data raises serious accountability concerns.
“We call on him to account for the fines levied on DStv. Instead of explaining to Ghanaians how much has been accrued from these fines, the minister has chosen to attack well-meaning citizens and the Minority for asking legitimate questions,” Mr. Owiredu said.
The caucus further accused the minister of displaying “ineptitude, incompetence, and a penchant for deceit,” pointing to MultiChoice’s public rebuttal of his claims that he had successfully negotiated a price reduction.
“MultiChoice publicly challenged him for inaccurately claiming there had been an agreed reduction in prices. They clarified that the so-called breakthrough he announced was merely their existing ‘Step Up’ promotional offers, which have been running since January 2025,” he added.
The Minority also criticized the minister’s temperament and approach, arguing that his conduct undermined regulators and investor confidence.
“His failure to grasp key issues during meetings and communicate the actual negotiated outcomes to Ghanaians, or a deliberate fabrication of what he was never able to broker, is evident. This posture not only misleads the public but also threatens the growth of this sensitive industry,” the caucus stressed.
The Minority demanded that the Minister fully account for the fines imposed on MultiChoice and disclose how much has accrued since their enforcement.
Hon. Owiredu further urged the minister to apologise unreservedly to Ghanaians and step down over what he described as a waste of national time and resources.
“For this display of ineptitude and incompetence, we deem him unfit to continue as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation. He must resign or be dismissed by the President,” he declared.
