Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has refuted allegations made in a viral social media video by a woman claiming to be a student nurse. The woman alleged that during the election period, she confronted the MP over unpaid nursing trainee allowances, and that he allegedly responded, ‘If she won’t vote because her allowance has not been paid, then that is fine.’

In a press statement issued on Friday, Mr. Asenso-Boakye dismissed the claim as entirely fabricated and politically motivated.

“I have never had any such encounter or conversation with this individual, nor with any student nurse, regarding allowances,” the statement said.

The Bantama MP clarified that there is no nursing training institution in his constituency, and that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Training School, which the woman may have referred to, does not fall under Bantama.

While Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has a nursing school, it does not fall under the Bantama constituency. I therefore have no direct constituency dealings with nursing trainees,” he noted.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye, who previously served as Minister of State and Deputy Chief of Staff, further stressed that he has never been responsible for managing nursing trainee allowances or had any direct role in the health sector.

Describing the viral claim as false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to drag my name into needless political propaganda, the lawmaker urged the public to disregard the allegation completely and appealed for information on the woman behind the video.

“Anyone who knows the identity of the lady in the said video should kindly provide her details,” he appealed.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents, stating, “I remain focused on dedicating my energy to serving the people of Bantama and contributing meaningfully to national development.”
