The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has issued a fervent call for national unity and unwavering support following the Black Stars’ successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement delivered on behalf of the legislative body, the Speaker poured praise on the senior national team for their determination, discipline, and patriotic spirit, characterizing their qualification – secured with a crucial 1-0 win over Comoros on Sunday—as a moment of immense national pride.

“This remarkable accomplishment demonstrates the hard work, dedication, and patriotic spirit of our players, coaching staff, and support teams,” the statement read, adding that the victory not only fills the nation with pride but also highlights Ghana’s sporting excellence.

This appearance marks the fifth time Ghana will compete on football’s biggest stage, to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Mr. Bagbin challenged the Black Stars, urging the team to maintain their high standards and to exhibit the highest levels of discipline, teamwork, and resilience as they begin preparations for the global showpiece.

The Speaker emphasized that the team’s success transcends sports; it embodies the collective aspirations and spirit of the Ghanaian people. He therefore rallied all citizens to put aside differences and rally behind the Black Stars with unwavering support and unity.

“Parliament stands firmly behind you and encourages all Ghanaians… We are confident that they will make the nation proud and inspire future generations through their exemplary performance,” the Speaker affirmed.

Dr. Lawrence Kwarteng-Ashia, Deputy Director of Media Relations at Parliament, who signed the statement, underscored Parliament’s commitment to supporting the team. He noted that the 2026 tournament offers a prime opportunity for Ghana to once again reaffirm its reputation in global football.

“The Speaker and Members of Parliament are optimistic that the Black Stars will make an indelible mark at the tournament and once again fly the flag of Ghana high among the nations,” the statement stressed
