Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, has refuted reports alleging that she has switched her political allegiance from the former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to the Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Hon. Adwoa Safo described the report—published by The Insight Newspaper—as false, misleading, and maliciously fabricated

“I wish to categorically and unequivocally deny this claim as false, misleading, and maliciously fabricated to create disaffection and confusion within the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and among my supporters,” she said.

The former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister emphasized that she has never made any statement, publicly or privately, suggesting she has withdrawn her support for Dr. Bawumia.

“At no point in time have I made any statement, whether on record, in private conversation, or on any public platform, suggesting that I have withdrawn my support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” she added.

Hon. Adwoa Safo reaffirmed her firm loyalty to Dr. Bawumia, describing him as a visionary leader who embodies humility, competence, and resilience.

“I remain firmly loyal to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and fully committed to his vision for our party and for Ghana. Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated exceptional leadership, humility, competence, and resilience even in the face of adversity,” she noted.

She cautioned against attempts to scapegoat the NPP’s 2024 electoral outcome on any individual, insisting that Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the party and Ghana cannot be questioned.

Leadership transitions, she said, often come with challenges, but assigning blame to one individual for the 2024 electoral outcome is neither fair nor productive. “Every dedicated servant deserves a second chance to serve and lead,” she stressed.

Hon. Safo urged The Insight Newspaper to retract the publication and issue an apology, reminding the media of its duty to uphold fairness, accuracy, and truth in its reportage.

She called for unity within the NPP as it works towards reclaiming power in the 2028 elections.

The Insight Newspaper recently published a story suggesting that Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo had shifted her political support from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Kennedy Agyapong, a claim that has now been officially dismissed by the former MP as entirely baseless.
