Death of Nana Konadu: Akufo-Addo consoles the Rawlings family

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commiserated with the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

Mrs Rawlings died on October 23, 2025 at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

In a Facebook post, ex-president Akufo-Addo eulogised the former First Lady.

“My wife Rebecca and I are deeply saddened by the news of the untimely passing of the wife of the late first President of the 4th Republic, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, the longest serving First Lady in our history and the Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, H.E. Mrs Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings,” the former President wrote.

He added that, “As a role model for women in Ghana and across Africa, Mrs. Rawlings’ gender advocacy and women empowerment initiatives remain impactful to this day. Her commitment to the growth of the women’s movement in Ghana and Africa can never be forgotten. She was a warm and affectionate woman, with a good sense of humour and was excellent company. Rebecca, my children and I, extend our deepest condolences to her children and family on this sad occasion.”

“May her soul rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall meet again,” Nana Addo stated.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has requested for privacy to mourn their beloved following her demise.

At a brief press conference at the residence of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in Ridge, Accra, the family head, Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie announced that further notices about the burial Ghana’s First female presidential candidate will be announced by the President.

He added that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has also been informed accordingly of the passing of the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The family informed His Excellency the President and subsequently informed the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. His Excellency the President has caused a statement to be made confirming Nana Konadu’s death.

“At this stage, the family is obviously in mourning and we will crave your indulgence to give us some privacy. All further notices will be relayed by the government,” the family head stated.
