Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, nominated as Chief Justice of Ghana, is scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, November 11, 2025. The vetting will take place at 11:00 a.m. in Committee Rooms 1 and 2.
The referral to the Appointments Committee was made on Tuesday, October 21, when Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin officially presented the nominee to the House. The referral followed a letter from President John Dramani Mahama dated October 14, 2025, which communicated the nomination in accordance with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

President Mahama’s correspondence highlighted the nominee’s long-standing record of excellence in the judiciary. He commended Justice Baffoe-Bonnie for his integrity, judicial temperament, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law. According to the President, the nominee’s professionalism, fairness, and administrative competence make him well-suited to lead the judiciary.
The President further urged Parliament to expedite the approval process to ensure continuity and a smooth transition in judicial leadership.
Speaker Bagbin subsequently referred the nomination to the Appointments Committee for public vetting and a report back to the House.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, a senior Supreme Court Justice, is widely respected for his decades of service, strong legal scholarship, and dedication to judicial integrity. His appearance before the Committee marks a key step toward potential confirmation as Ghana’s next Chief Justice.
