New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and Member of Parliament for Akuampem North, Sammy Awuku, has issued a passionate call to party supporters to rally solidly behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a genuine, humble, and dependable leader who deserves the party’s full backing in the upcoming January 31 presidential primary.

Speaking to party faithful during the weekend, Awuku said his long-standing interactions with the Vice President have shown him a man whose character is rooted in sincerity rather than political posturing.

“I have interacted with him a lot, and I know he is a man of his word. Dr. Bawumia doesn’t fake,” Awuku stressed.

Awuku contrasted Bawumia’s natural demeanour with the artificial behaviour of some politicians who put on smiles only when seeking positions.

“There are people who laugh with you when they want a position, but the laughter isn’t natural. But with Dr. Bawumia, what you see is what you get,” he said. “He loves people, he likes people, and he brings people together.”

He urged party members to offer Bawumia the same unwavering support they extended to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a message loaded with symbolism, Awuku highlighted Bawumia’s rise from humble beginnings to national leadership, urging the party to embrace his story as a source of pride and inspiration.

“Let us demonstrate that the charcoal seller’s son can also wear a white shirt,” he declared.

Awuku reminded critics that Bawumia has served the NPP loyally for years—twice as running mate and twice as Vice President—making attempts to brand him as a “stranger” completely unfounded.

“He has helped us win power twice. If anyone calls him a stranger, then I cry for your child. What about you, the polling station executive who has not even been a District Chief Executive before?” he added.

With the internal election drawing near, Awuku called for unity and focus, urging party members to avoid internal strife and rally behind a candidate who has already proven his dedication to the party’s electoral success.

“May God help us and unite us. The election we are going for on January 31—may the covenant-keeping God keep His covenant with us and help Dr. Bawumia.”

Awuku appealed to the grassroots to reward Bawumia’s loyalty with overwhelming support.
