Legal luminary Sam Okudzeto says the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has not delivered on its core mandate of fighting corruption. He argues that the vice remains widespread despite the establishment of the office.

Speaking on Joy News on Monday, December 8, Mr. Okudzeto said corruption continues to thrive openly across state institutions.

“The OSP hasn’t achieved its purpose because the corruption is still on. I see it every day. Everywhere you turn, you see it openly,” he said.

“People are no longer even afraid. You go there, and they demand money from you to do something you have already paid for.”

He maintained that Ghana already has institutions capable of prosecuting corruption, insisting that existing structures must be strengthened rather than creating “parallel bodies” that yield little impact.

“You have an Attorney General’s Department with a civil section and a prosecutorial section headed by the Director of Public Prosecutions. He is supposed to prosecute criminal offences, including corruption,” he explained.

“Why create another institution to do the same job? That’s the whole issue.”

Mr. Okudzeto’s remarks come at a time when the OSP is under public scrutiny following its recent arrest of private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu.
