The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three individuals in connection with a massive 1,158-kilogram consignment of a substance suspected to be cocaine that was shipped from Ghana to the Port of Antwerp in Belgium.
The arrests were made on December 4, 2025, after weeks of coordinated intelligence work between Ghanaian security agencies and Belgian authorities, who intercepted the suspected narcotics on arrival in Europe. Officials describe the seizure as one of the largest drug-linked cases traced to Ghana this year.

According to NACOC, the suspects allegedly played active roles in the preparation, documentation, and export of the container, which had been disguised as regular cargo. Early leads point to a wider transnational trafficking network operating across key West African ports.
Security sources say Belgian authorities detected anomalies in the container and immediately alerted NACOC, triggering a joint trace-back operation that led to the arrests in Ghana.
NACOC says a full-scale investigation is underway to identify additional accomplices and uncover the full scope of the network behind the attempted export.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to tightening port surveillance and deepening international cooperation. It also urged freight operators, shipping agents, and the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities as Ghana intensifies its fight against illicit drug trafficking.
