The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally presented the Bawku Peace Mediation Report to President John Dramani Mahama, marking a major step toward restoring lasting peace in the conflict-prone township.
The presentation ceremony, held on December 16, followed a carefully arranged protocol, beginning with the arrival of traditional rulers, key stakeholders, the Chief of Staff, the Asantehene, and culminating in the arrival of the President.
Proceedings opened with the national anthem and an opening prayer, after which the Director of State Protocol delivered introductory remarks. A welcome address was then given by the Minister of the Interior.

The highlight of the ceremony came when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who spearheaded months of high-level mediation efforts, addressed the gathering and symbolically handed over the comprehensive peace report to the President.
Explaining the nature of the process, the Asantehene stressed that the engagement was purely mediation and not arbitration.
“It was a mediation. It wasn’t an arbitration, and I’m not here to say that this one was wrong or that one was right. I will present the facts as they are, and that is what should be binding on all of us,” he stated.
Otumfuo further disclosed that the report contains detailed accounts from both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, a move intended to ensure transparency and fairness in the peace process.
The presentation marks the culmination of months of dialogue, consultations, and negotiations led by the Asantehene to resolve the long-standing Bawku conflict.
The handover of the mediation report is widely regarded as a critical milestone toward ending recurring violence in Bawku and laying a solid foundation for reconciliation, stability, and peaceful coexistence in the area.
