Burkina Faso delivered one of the most breathtaking climaxes of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, scoring twice in stoppage time to defeat Equatorial Guinea 2–1 in a dramatic Group E showdown at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Wednesday.

In a fiercely contested battle that exploded into life in the dying moments, the Stallions appeared destined for disappointment after conceding late against ten-man Equatorial Guinea. But a stunning display of resilience, character, and belief saw them overturn the deficit unforgettably.

The victory propels Burkina Faso to the top of Group E with three crucial points, while Equatorial Guinea sit bottom ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Algeria and Sudan later in the day.

The opening half was tightly contested, marked by intensity, strength, and tactical discipline, but clear scoring chances were hard to come by as both sides cancelled each other out.

The turning point arrived early in the second half when Basilio Ndong received a straight red card in the 50th minute for a reckless challenge, leaving Equatorial Guinea a man down and forcing coach Juan Micha to restructure his team.

Burkina Faso thought they had finally broken the deadlock in the 71st minute when Lassina Traoré found the back of the net. However, VAR intervened, ruling the goal out and deepening the Stallions’ frustration.

Against the run of play, Equatorial Guinea stunned their opponents when substitute Marvin Aniebo rose highest to head home Carlos Akapo’s corner in the 85th minute, putting his side in front just three minutes after coming on.

But Burkina Faso refused to surrender. Their relentless pressure paid off deep into added time when substitute György Menongo struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time to restore hope.

Then came the moment of magic. In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Edmond Tapsoba powered home the dramatic winner, sealing a sensational turnaround and sending Burkina Faso fans into wild celebrations in Casablanca.
