New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Bryan Acheampong, has stated that the government’s much-publicised Nkoko Nkintikiti initiative was originally conceived by the NPP as part of a comprehensive poultry intensification strategy under Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two.

The former Agriculture Minister argued that many of the agricultural programmes contained in the NDC government’s 2025/2026 budget, including poultry interventions, were first outlined in the NPP’s policy framework.

He was speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express.

According to him, the key focus areas, projected targets, and even irrigation infrastructure that the current administration is banking on formed part of projects initiated under his leadership at the Agriculture Ministry.

“Most of the programmes being implemented today were captured in our PFJ Phase Two document. The targeted crops, poultry plans, and even irrigation proposals are almost identical. It’s not a bad thing — it only shows that the NPP laid the foundation,” he stated.

Bryan Acheampong explained that the concept behind the now-renamed Nkokor Nkintikiti was designed by the NPP to boost local poultry production, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance national food security.

He added that the NPP had projected the number of birds needed within five years to drastically cut poultry imports and meet domestic demand.

The Abetifi legislator said his bid to become flagbearer is motivated by a commitment to build on these policy foundations and advance Ghana’s agricultural and economic transformation. He believes a return of the NPP to power would ensure the full implementation and expansion of critical agricultural initiatives.
