Sadio Mané rescued Senegal with a crucial equaliser as the defending champions came from behind to draw 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D clash in Morocco on Saturday.

Cedric Bakambu opened the scoring for DR Congo in the 61st minute, raising hopes of a famous victory, before Mané struck eight minutes later to level the contest with his 51st international goal.

The result leaves both nations on four points after two matches and firmly on course for qualification to the Round of 16, with their final group fixtures scheduled for Tuesday.

Senegal remains top of Group D on goal difference following their commanding 3-0 win over Botswana earlier in the tournament, while DR Congo secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Benin in their opener.

Senegal, widely tipped among the tournament favourites, will now look to seal qualification in their final group match as they continue their quest for another continental crown.
