Ayawaso East MP Mahama Naser Toure dies after short Illness

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Mahama Naser Toure, has passed away after a short illness. He died on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, sending shockwaves through Parliament and the political community.

Mr Toure was serving his fourth consecutive term in Ghana’s Parliament, where he was widely regarded as an experienced legislator and a committed advocate for his constituents. Over the years, he played a significant role in parliamentary business, contributing to key policy discussions and legislative oversight.

Until his passing, the late MP served as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, a position that placed him at the centre of deliberations on Ghana’s energy sector. He was also an active member of several important parliamentary committees, including the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee, reflecting his broad involvement in legislative affairs.

Colleagues across the political divide have described Mr Toure as dedicated, approachable, and deeply passionate about public service, particularly issues affecting urban communities such as Ayawaso East.

In keeping with Islamic tradition, the late legislator is expected to be laid to rest later today at his residence in Nima, Accra. His burial will take place in accordance with Islamic rites.
