Cameroon secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over South Africa in Rabat, holding their nerve under pressure to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Despite being largely outplayed in the opening stages, the Indomitable Lions showed resilience and clinical efficiency.

Bafana Bafana dominated possession and created the clearer chances in the first half, but were repeatedly denied by Cameroonian goalkeeper Devis Epassy and their own lack of precision in front of goal.

The turning point came in the 33rd minute when Tchamadeu struck against the run of play, converting Cameroon’s first real opportunity to put his side ahead.

Buoyed by the goal, Cameroon emerged stronger after the break and doubled their advantage just two minutes into the second half. Kofane finished calmly with a diving header in the 47th minute, dealing a significant blow to South Africa’s momentum.

South Africa pushed relentlessly in search of a comeback and were rewarded late on when Makgopa pulled one back in the 87th minute, setting up a tense finale. However, Cameroon’s defence, marshalled by Epassy, held firm to see out the contest.

Though dominated for long spells, Cameroon’s composure and tactical discipline proved decisive as they progressed to the last eight.

The Indomitable Lions will now face hosts Morocco on Friday at the Stade Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
