The late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Mr. Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, will be given an Islamic burial today, Monday, January 5, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites.
President John Dramani Mahama intervened to facilitate the swift release of the body to the family to enable the burial arrangements.
The final Islamic funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held at exactly 10:00 a.m. at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office along the Kanda Highway. The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will lead the prayer.

Following the prayers, the body will be conveyed to the Madina Cemetery for Islamic burial.
The Islamic burial constitutes the first phase of the funeral rites. Additional observances will be announced after consultations with the family.
Mr. Naser Toure, who was serving his fourth term in Parliament, passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. During his tenure, he served on several parliamentary committees, including as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, and as a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.

Naser Toure Mahama, born on March 17, 1965, is a politician and a long-serving Member of Parliament representing the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Mahama is a member of the Seventh Parliament and currently serves in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, having maintained his seat through successive elections.
Naser Toure Mahama hails from Nima in Accra. He attended West Africa Senior High School before proceeding to Central University College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1987. He later obtained a Diploma in Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Doshisha University.
Mr. Mahama entered Parliament in 2013 after winning the Ayawaso East seat in the 2012 general elections on the ticket of the NDC. Since then, he has consistently retained the seat, becoming one of the longest-serving MPs in the constituency.
In the 2024 general election, Mr. Mahama secured a decisive victory, polling 22,139 votes, representing 70.85 percent of the total valid votes cast. His closest challenger, Zak Rahman, garnered 9,110 votes, equivalent to 29.15 percent.
Throughout his parliamentary career, Mr. Mahama has served on several committees, contributing to legislative work and constituency development.
Before entering active politics, Mr. Mahama built a business career. He served as Managing Director of Aminasei Oil Company in Accra from 1993 to 2011. He also worked with OTA Forex Bureau in Accra between 2001 and 2003.
Naser Toure Mahama is a Muslim. He is married and has two children.
His political journey reflects a blend of business experience, academic training, and sustained electoral support in one of Accra’s key constituencies.
