The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has condemned the recent assault on Class Media Group journalist, Samuel Addo, describing the incident as a grave attack on press freedom and Ghana’s democratic values.
In a statement issued on Monday, PRINPAG said the unprovoked attack occurred while Mr. Addo was carrying out his professional duties, stressing that any form of violence or intimidation against journalists is unacceptable and unconstitutional.
According to the association, the incident constitutes a direct violation of Article 162 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees freedom and independence of the media.

PRINPAG warned that attacks on journalists undermine democratic accountability and weaken public trust in governance.
The media advocacy body has therefore called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of the Interior to conduct a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into the assault and ensure that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.
“Delivering justice in this case is essential not only for Mr. Addo but also to send a clear message that attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in a democratic society,” the statement emphasized.
PRINPAG also urged security agencies and the general public to recognise the vital role journalists play in national development, noting that media practitioners are partners in nation-building who deserve protection rather than harassment.
The association reaffirmed its solidarity with Mr. Addo and journalists across the country who continue to work under increasingly difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions.
PRINPAG reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety, and independence of media professionals and to advocating for a free, safe, and responsible press in Ghana.
