The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched formal proceedings to remove Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from its membership, citing his recent critical and harmful statements about the party.

In an official release dated January 13, 2026, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP indicated it had taken grave note of the comments Prof. Frimpong-Boateng made during a January 12, 2026, appearance on Channel One TV.

The former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation reportedly labeled the NPP a “fake party,” asserted that he no longer regards himself as part of it, and claimed the 2023 presidential primary—which selected Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s 2024 presidential flagbearer—was manipulated to favor him.

The party described these remarks as disparaging and damaging, prompting it to activate the appropriate constitutional mechanisms to initiate his expulsion in line with established procedures.

The NPP has categorically rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless, unsubstantiated, and unfortunate.

“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong Boateng’s characterization of the NPP and firmly denies his allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement said.

According to the party, the presidential primary was widely acknowledged by all aspirants who participated, as well as by party members, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of delegates.

The party further described Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s conduct and utterances as highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the NPP.

“As a result, the New Patriotic Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
