The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the promotion of seventeen police officers to higher ranks in a move aimed at rewarding excellence within the service.
The promotion, which took effect on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, includes two senior officers.
According to the Police Administration, the elevation is in recognition of their exemplary conduct, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to duty.

The promotions highlight the officers’ distinguished performance, particularly regarding operational excellence and discipline. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to motivate personnel who demonstrate high levels of integrity and commitment to national service.
During a ceremony held to honor the officers, IGP Yohuno—joined by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB)—congratulated the recipients. He emphasized that their new ranks represent more than just a title; they are a call to greater accountability.
“View this elevation as a call to greater responsibility, leadership, and accountability,” the IGP stated, urging the officers to remain steadfast in their loyalty to the public.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to a merit-based system, noting that rewarding excellence is essential for strengthening morale. By recognizing those who uphold the highest standards of the force, the administration aims to enhance the overall effectiveness of policing across the country.
