Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party delegates to place their confidence in his leadership and vote for him in the upcoming presidential primaries, stressing that the decision would have far-reaching consequences for both the party and the nation.

Dr Bawumia made the call while addressing NPP delegates and supporters in the Asawase Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.

The NPP presidential primary is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.

According to Dr Bawumia, the party requires a candidate with a proven track record in governance and economic management, noting that experience and measurable results in key sectors of national development would be critical going into the next general elections.

Outlining elements of his vision, Dr Bawumia announced plans to introduce a Database Welfare System (DBWS) aimed at consolidating and providing easy access to information on party members to improve welfare delivery and internal organisation.

He further pledged that, under his leadership, 3,000 out of the 7,000 governance appointments would be allocated directly to constituencies to ensure fairness and broad-based inclusion across the party.

The former Vice President also proposed the introduction of a Constituency-Based Budget System to properly document constituency-specific challenges and ensure their timely resolution.

Citing findings from internal party committee reports, Dr Bawumia attributed the NPP’s recent electoral setback to what he described as a ‘one-man-chop syndrome,’ assuring delegates that such practices would not persist if he is given the mandate to lead the party.

He appealed for unity within the NPP and urged delegates to entrust him once again with the leadership of the party.

As part of his visit, Dr Bawumia also facilitated reconciliation among Mr Manaf Ibrahim, Mr Alidu Seidu, and Mr Ali Suraj, who had earlier been at loggerheads, describing unity as critical to the party’s future success.

He was accompanied by several party stalwarts, including Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Mr Kofi Dwumah, Mr Collins Ntim, Mr Simon Osei Mensah, Mr Ben Abdullah Banda, Mr Saalim Bamba, Dr Ayew Afriyie, Mr Kennedy Kankam and Alhaji Mohammed Moro.
