Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has emerged victorious in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, will determine the NDC candidate for the upcoming by-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late MP Naser Mahama Toure.
Baba Jamal secured a total of 431 votes, narrowly defeating his closest contender, Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes.

Other candidates included Mohammed Ramme with 88 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azindow with 45 votes, and Mohammed Najib, who received 1 vote.
The win positions Baba Jamal as the NDC’s standard-bearer in a highly anticipated by-election, with party supporters looking forward to a competitive contest to retain the Ayawaso East seat.
