Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, Hon. Abed-Nego Bandim, has raised concerns in Parliament over recurring cases of unexplained disappearances in Nakpanduri in the North East Region
He appealed for urgent state intervention to prevent further insecurity.
Presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, read on his behalf, the lawmaker said at least seven people from the area have gone missing between 2001 and 2026 without any conclusive investigations.
“We cannot allow a part of this country to become a zone of silence where citizens vanish without explanation,” he stated.

According to Dr. Bandim, the latest reported case occurred on January 25, 2026, when community leaders and the National Association of Bimoba, Moba, and Gurma (NABMAG) reported the disappearance of another resident in Nakpanduri.
He told Parliament that the growing number of unresolved cases has created fear and anxiety among residents.
“For the families involved, the lack of closure is a source of profound distress. For the broader community, it fuels suspicion and undermines social cohesion,” he said.
The Bunkpurugu MP linked the disappearances to a worsening security environment in the region, citing recent attacks on police barriers in Nalerigu and Gambaga.
“Such attacks on security infrastructure suggest a growing boldness among criminal elements,” Dr. Bandim warned.
He noted that the difficult terrain around the Nakpanduri Scarp provides hideouts for criminal and extremist groups, making law enforcement operations challenging.
Invoking Article 13 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and personal liberty, Dr. Bandim said the unresolved cases point to possible lapses in state protection.
He therefore made specific demands to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), saying, “We require an independent assessment to determine if there has been a systemic failure in the state’s duty to protect its citizens.”
He also called on the Inspector-General of Police to deploy a special team to re-examine the cases, “The families deserve definitive answers,” he stressed.
The Bunkpurugu MP further appealed to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to scale up security education in the district under its NORPREVSEC project.
“It is vital that our citizens are empowered to report suspicious activities promptly without fear,” he noted.
The lawmaker also urged traditional authorities and NABMAG leaders to support state agencies in tackling the menace.
“Your collaboration is essential in identifying and rooting out any internal actors who may be facilitating these crimes,” he said.
Dr. Bandim appealed to Parliament to back his call for stronger security measures and thorough investigations. “The people of Nakpanduri and the North East Region look to this House and the State for assurance,” he added.
