The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has handed over a recovered sum of GH¢85,000.00 to its rightful owner after officers found a bag containing the money along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.

The incident occurred in the early hours of February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m., when officers on duty at a police snap checkpoint near Techiman noticed a bag lying by the roadside, suspected to have fallen from a moving vehicle.

According to a statement signed by Appiah Danquah, ASP/SO/PRO, Bono East Region, the bag had the name “Ofori” and a contact number written on it. Upon inspection, officers discovered it contained a large sum of money.

The officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, promptly secured the bag and forwarded it to the Regional Command for further verification and investigation.

Police contacted the phone number on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman from Kumasi, Stephen Ofori, responded and later reported to claim ownership.

Mr. Ofori told investigators that the money was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when it went missing.

In the presence of the claimant, police verified the amount and confirmed it to be GH¢85,000.00.

After Mr. Ofori provided satisfactory explanations and all verification processes were completed, the police officially released the money to him.

The Regional Police Command praised the officers for their professionalism, honesty, and commitment to public service.

“We highly commend our officers and the community members who brought this matter to the attention of the police,” the statement said.
