The Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF), Lawyer Abass Nurudeen, says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accepted the decision of the Chief Justice to dismiss petitions seeking the removal of the leadership of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, ruled that there was no prima facie case to warrant further proceedings against the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, and her deputies, Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.
The ruling, which effectively dismissed the petitions, was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, by the Minister of Government Communications.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Nhyria FM’s programme Kro Yi Mu Nsem, Abass Nurudeen said although supporters of the NDC were disappointed, the party would respect the decision of the judiciary.
He noted that the party remains committed to democratic principles and the rule of law, urging members and supporters to remain calm.
“I’ll urge them to stay calm and understand that being in government doesn’t automatically guarantee favourable outcomes in every case,” he said.
Mr. Nurudeen, who also serves as the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NDC, reiterated his criticism of the EC leadership, alleging incompetence and pointing to what he described as errors in the declaration of presidential results during the 2020 elections.
He further claimed that similar mistakes were repeated during the 2024 elections, particularly in the Akwatia and Kpandai parliamentary results processes.
According to him, the failure to address these challenges could pose a threat to national peace.
“As an NDC member, I believe Madam Jean Mensa, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, and Samuel Tettey should not remain in their positions, considering what happened in the 2020 and 2024 elections. These petitions should serve as a wake-up call,” he stated.
Meanwhile, former Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency and NPP stalwart, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has praised the Chief Justice’s ruling, describing it as a victory for Ghana’s democracy.
He said the Constitution remains the supreme guide for all state institutions and that decisions based on it must be respected.
Dr. Kokofu also expressed confidence in the judiciary under Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, stressing that his trust in the Chief Justice predates the ruling on the EC petitions.
“I have trusted Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for a long time, and not just because of this ruling,” he told the host, Barima Kofi Dawson.
