The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot secure victory in any free and fair election in Ghana.

The NDC’s Deputy Director for IT and Elections, Rashid Tanko-Computer, made the remarks during an interview on Morning Starr hosted by Naa Dedei Tettey.

He attributed the NPP’s electoral struggles to what he described as weak public support and alleged irregularities in the party’s internal processes.

According to Tanko-Computer, the NDC is committed to winning elections through transparent and credible means.

“The NDC does not seek to win elections through unfair means. We want transparency and fairness. Under such conditions, we are confident we will defeat the NPP, he said.

He stressed that the party’s confidence is rooted in its belief in democratic principles and respect for the will of the electorate.

The NDC official further claimed that many Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the NPP’s performance in government and no longer trust the party.

“Any free and fair election will see the NPP lose,” he asserted. “Ghanaians do not like them. They are known for manipulating results.”

He argued that voter frustration with economic and governance issues has weakened the NPP’s appeal nationwide.

Highlighting what he described as inconsistencies within the opposition party, Tanko-Computer pointed to the NPP’s own internal elections.

“During their internal polls, they even set up an anti-rigging squad. Why would they do that if everything was above board?” he questioned.

He suggested that such measures raise concerns about transparency within the party’s internal structures.

Tanko-Computer said the NDC’s confidence is based on its governance philosophy and policy direction, which he described as people-centred and inclusive.

“Ghanaians support us because of our policies and the way we manage the country,” he said. “We make governance inclusive — people can come, interact, and experience transparency firsthand.”

He maintained that the party’s openness to public engagement has strengthened its credibility.

The Deputy IT Director reaffirmed the NDC’s determination to monitor all electoral processes to safeguard democratic integrity.

“We will continue to watch every stage of the process to ensure fairness and accountability,” he noted.

He added that the party would resist any attempt to undermine Ghana’s democratic institutions.

Background

The comments come amid increasing political activity as parties intensify preparations for future national elections.

Both the NDC and NPP have stepped up grassroots mobilisation, media engagements, and internal restructuring, as they position themselves for the next electoral contest.

The latest remarks reflect the NDC’s narrative of popularity and accountability, while casting doubt on the credibility and public appeal of the governing party.

As Ghana moves closer to another election cycle, political rhetoric continues to sharpen, with the NDC projecting confidence and the NPP facing renewed criticism.

Whether these claims translate into electoral success will ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
