Tamale North Member of Parliament, Alhassan Suhuyini Sayibu, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to be sincere, humble, and transparent when he delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, 27th February, 2026.

Speaking in an interview ahead of the address in Parliament, the lawmaker expressed confidence that the President would present a truthful and comprehensive account of Ghana’s current state of affairs, particularly after more than a year in office.

“To be very sincere with the people of Ghana, I expect him to deliver with the same humility that he is noted for,” Suhuyini said.

According to the Tamale North MP, President Mahama’s first SONA after returning to power may not have fully captured the depth of national challenges due to limited information at the time.

However, he believes the upcoming address will be more detailed.

“This time around, having been in office for over a year, he will give a full account of some of the issues that he inherited,” he noted.

Suhuyini said he expects the President to outline clear strategies and policy measures aimed at resolving the difficulties inherited from the previous administration.

The MP commended the government for stabilising the economy, describing the turnaround as impressive and unexpected by many analysts.

“We are all witnesses to the fact that he has so far steered the affairs of the economy so well, to the admiration of even economic pundits,” he stated.

He added that many critics did not anticipate Ghana’s quick recovery from economic difficulties.

Suhuyini expects the President to provide a detailed update on economic performance and future plans.

Touching on national and regional security, Suhuyini said President Mahama is likely to address both internal and external threats, particularly developments in the Sahel region.

He referred to Ghana’s engagement with regional bodies such as ECOWAS, stressing that instability in neighbouring countries could affect Ghana.

“Whatever happens in the Sahel region, we cannot insulate ourselves from it,” he explained.

He also expects the President to comment on the security situation in Burkina Faso and its implications for Ghana.

The MP further disclosed that President Mahama would likely address issues surrounding the cocoa sector and other matters being raised by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He maintained that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot be blamed for challenges in the cocoa industry.

“Any fair-minded person will come to the conclusion that the NDC government in one year did not create the problems in the cocoa sector,” he said.

Suhuyini expressed confidence that the President would present a fair assessment of the situation facing cocoa farmers and outline a roadmap to fix the problem and resolve the concerns.

The Tamale North legislator reiterated his belief in President Mahama’s leadership style and problem-solving approach.

“It is his nature to fix problems. I am sure he will give a fair account of the situation and show the way forward,” he said.
