Ayawaso East MP-elect, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has pledged renewed commitment to public service following his victory in the Ayawaso East by-election, describing his recent assignment in Nigeria as a defining experience that has strengthened his resolve ahead of his return to Parliament.
Speaking after his declaration as winner in Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal said his time abroad had broadened his perspective and sharpened his leadership skills. He noted that the exposure had prepared him to serve his constituents and the nation more effectively.
He won the contest with 10,884 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party candidate, Yussif Ali Baba, who secured 4,009 votes.

Addressing supporters moments after his victory, Baba Jamal framed the win as a collective achievement. He thanked Allah and the people of Ayawaso East for renewing their confidence in him, stressing that the mandate belonged to the constituency rather than to him personally.
He dedicated the victory to his 93-year-old mother, describing her long-standing encouragement as a major source of motivation. He also expressed appreciation to his wife, children, and extended family for their endurance and unwavering support throughout his political journey.
The MP-elect further acknowledged the role of the National Democratic Congress leadership and grassroots supporters, including regional and constituency executives, as well as supporters from Akwatia who rallied behind his campaign.
Baba Jamal reserved special praise for President John Dramani Mahama, under whose leadership he served in Nigeria, noting that the opportunity had prepared him for the task ahead in Parliament.
Looking forward, he promised swift action to transform the constituency.
“The resetting of Ayawaso East starts now. We are going to Parliament to ensure that what this constituency deserves comes to pass,” he said.
He also thanked the media for their sustained coverage and pledged to work closely with journalists, urging them to hold him accountable in a professional manner.
With his return to Parliament secured, Baba Jamal says he is bringing renewed experience, deep gratitude, and a firm commitment to deliver development and responsive leadership for the people of Ayawaso East.
