A 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire at the Los Angeles home of global pop star Rihanna, according to prosecutors.

The suspect, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, is accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at the singer’s mansion at around 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT) on Sunday.

Authorities confirmed that no one was injured during the incident. Ortiz is currently being held on bail set at $1.875 million (£1.395 million) and could face a possible life sentence if convicted.

Police say the shooting happened while Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, were inside the residence.

Investigators allege Ortiz drove up to the front of the property, fired multiple rounds at the house, and then fled the scene.

Her white Tesla was later located about eight miles (12km) away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping centre, where authorities arrested her.

Nathan J. Hochman, the Los Angeles County District Attorney, strongly condemned the incident, warning that such violence would be prosecuted fully.

“Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk, and will be fully prosecuted,” Hochman said.

Prosecutors noted that several people were inside Rihanna’s home at the time of the shooting, as well as individuals in a neighbouring property.

“This careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons,” Hochman added.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Ortiz faces several other serious counts, including:

Ten felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm

Three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper

The Los Angeles Police Department is also investigating the suspect’s possible motive.

According to reports, investigators discovered several social media posts referencing Rihanna.

In one message on X, Ortiz allegedly wrote: “Are you there? … say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you’re talking to me where I’m not at.”

Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados, Rihanna rose to global fame in the mid-2000s with chart-topping hits such as Pon de Replay and Umbrella.

She and A$AP Rocky share three children together. The rapper was previously acquitted in February of charges alleging he fired a gun at a former friend.

Following the shooting incident, video footage showed suitcases being wheeled away from the property the day after the attack, as authorities continued their investigation.
