The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah, has appealed to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to extend its transport services to Atebubu and surrounding communities.

According to the Chief, the move would significantly improve access to reliable transportation, boost economic activity, and reduce post-harvest losses in the municipality.

Ohempon Dr. Asiamah made the appeal during a recent courtesy call on the Managing Director of MMTL, Kale Cezar, Esq.

He stressed the persistent challenges faced by farmers in the area due to the absence of a major commercial transport system, which often leads to financial losses and the wastage of farm produce.

“The introduction of Metro Mass services will support farmers, ease the movement of goods and services, and enhance the economic fortunes of the area,” the Chief noted.

He also commended the leadership of the company and encouraged management to remain committed to transforming Ghana’s transport sector in line with national development goals.

In response, the Managing Director, Kale Cezar, briefed the Chief on challenges he inherited upon assuming office and outlined key interventions introduced to improve operations.

These include salary adjustments, enhanced staff welfare, and incentive packages aimed at boosting morale and productivity.

He further disclosed that MMTL is expecting a new fleet of buses, with the first batch scheduled to arrive by the end of March 2026, followed by additional units in the coming months.

Mr. Cezar assured the Paramount Chief of the company’s commitment to extending services to Atebubu.

“We are not only planning to operate along the Atebubu route but also to establish a full branch office in the municipality,” he stated.

He explained that the proposed branch would serve Atebubu and nearby communities, improving accessibility and operational efficiency.

As part of its expansion strategy, MMTL also plans to introduce cargo vehicles to support farmers and traders by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve livelihoods in the area.

“This will go a long way in supporting farmers and enhancing economic activity across the Atebubu enclave,” Mr. Cezar added.

The appeal by the Atebubu Paramount Chief underscores the urgent need for improved transport infrastructure in rural communities, as stakeholders continue to push for inclusive development and better market access for farmers.
