The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has pledged a massive infrastructure overhaul to protect citizens ahead of the impending rainy season.

Facing Parliament’s Government Assurances Committee public hearing at Parliament House, the Minister detailed a multi-pronged strategy aimed at ending the perennial cycle of flooding, water scarcity, and the nation’s stubborn housing shortage.

With the rainy season approaching, Mr. Adjei assured the Committee that the government is moving beyond rhetoric into active intervention. “We are working closely with the relevant agencies to implement a comprehensive flood mitigation strategy,” he stated.

In a move that will likely excite potential homeowners, the Housing and Water Minister announced that the long-stalled Saglemi Housing Project is finally back on track. A strategic investor has been secured to breathe life into the development, with $200 million already committed to the site.

Furthermore, the Ministry is decentralizing its housing efforts with new projects slated for the Volta Region and affordable housing units set for construction in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing the nation’s water crisis, Mr. Adjei tackled the issue of high turbidity levels—a major hurdle in providing clean water.

He revealed that feasibility studies for the Tamale Water Project are currently underway to ensure long-term sustainability for the northern sector.

While the Committee praised the Minister’s vision, members were quick to demand accountability, urging the Ministry to adopt formal “engagement mechanisms” to ensure these promises aren’t just talk, but timely realities for the Ghanaian people.
