The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Economy and Development, Eric Afful, has commended the government’s decision to remove certain taxes on petroleum products, describing it as a timely intervention to bring relief to vulnerable Ghanaians.
According to him, the move reflects the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘s commitment to prudent economic management and policies that directly benefit ordinary citizens.
The government’s decision, announced following an emergency Cabinet meeting chaired by President John Dramani Mahama, includes the temporary removal of selected fuel taxes and margins.

The measures are expected to take effect from next week and run for an initial period of four weeks.
In addition, the Cabinet has approved the deployment of 100 buses under the Metro Mass Transit system to provide reduced transport fares and ease the burden on commuters.
Ministers and senior government officials have also had their fuel allowances scrapped as part of broader cost-cutting efforts.
“This is a bold step by the government to cushion Ghanaians amidst rising fuel prices,” Afful stated in an interview, emphasizing the need for sustained interventions to protect households and businesses from external economic shocks.
