A communications officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, has been granted bail by the High Court General Jurisdiction 2 in Accra after spending several days in police custody.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties and directed that he report to the police every two weeks, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Baba Amando was arrested on Monday, April 13, 2026, over allegations including offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements considered likely to incite fear and panic.

Although formal charges are yet to be filed by prosecutors, sources close to the case indicate that the arrest may be linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court.

He is also accused of circulating derogatory images of the President, John Dramani Mahama, and other members of the ruling government on social media.

The case has attracted significant public attention, particularly around the delicate balance between freedom of expression and actions that may undermine public order or judicial independence.

Legal observers say the outcome could shape future interpretations of speech-related offences, especially in politically sensitive contexts.

The police have not released further details regarding the progress of the case, but officials confirm that investigations remain active.

Baba Amando is expected to comply with all bail conditions as authorities continue to build their case.
