A leading contender for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has taken a culturally symbolic step in his campaign journey by seeking the blessings of traditional authorities in his hometown.
On Saturday, Mr. Boadu paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Assin Fosu, Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, as part of preparations for his anticipated nationwide campaign tour ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The visit, steeped in tradition and reverence, highlighted Mr. Boadu’s commitment to respecting customary authority and acknowledging his roots before embarking on broader political engagements.

Addressing the Omanhene and his council, Mr. Boadu underscored the importance of seeking ancestral and traditional blessings before formally launching his campaign activities.
“Nana, it would be a great disrespect to hear on radio and television that your own grandson is traversing regions and entering various palaces without first coming here to seek your blessings,” he said.
“I am here to formally inform you of my decision to contest for the National Chairmanship of our great Party and to ask for your guidance and prayers.”
Mr. Boadu emphasized that his long-standing service within the NPP—from grassroots mobilization at the polling station level to national leadership—positions him uniquely to steer the party at a critical moment in its political trajectory. He noted that the party’s investment in his growth places a responsibility on him to offer experienced, loyal, and visionary leadership.
The Paramount Chief, alongside the Queen Mother Nana Afranse IV and other sub-chiefs, warmly received the delegation and commended Mr. Boadu for his humility and adherence to tradition.
“John, you are a true son of the soil. What you have done today is honorable, and we shall remember you in our prayers as you take this bold step,” the Omanhene stated, urging him to remain focused and undeterred by criticism.
The delegation accompanying Mr. Boadu included prominent party figures such as Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries; Central Regional Secretary Richard Takyi Mensah; Regional Women Organizer Charlotte Adwoa Antwi; Assin Central Constituency Chairman Attakora Amaniampong; as well as other constituency and diaspora party executives.
The visit marks what observers describe as a strong and culturally grounded start to Mr. Boadu’s campaign, reinforcing his message of unity, experience, and respect for both party traditions and Ghana’s chieftaincy institution.
