The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Zuwera Ibrahimah Mohammed, has called on Muslims and all Ghanaians to uphold the values of sacrifice, peace, compassion, and national unity as the country marks this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
She described Eid-ul-Adha as a significant occasion rooted in the obedience and faith of Prophet Abraham.
“Eid al-Adha embodies core values that transcend faith and speak to our national life. The essence of Qurbani is not in the slaughter itself but in sharing what we have with others,” she stated.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament ahead of the festival on Wednesday, the MP extended warm felicitations on behalf of the National Chief Imam, the National Muslim Conference of Ghana, and the Muslim Caucus in Parliament to Muslims across Ghana and the world.
According to her, the celebration traces its origin to the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command, as recorded in the Holy Quran.
“At the moment of submission, Almighty Allah intervened and substituted a ram, affirming that true sacrifice lies in obedience and trust in Allah,” she told Parliament.
The Salaga South MP also highlighted the historical presence of Islam in Ghana, noting that Eid-ul-Adha has been celebrated for centuries in Muslim communities across the country, including Dagbon, Gonja, and Mamprugu.
She said Ghana’s recognition of Eid-ul-Adha as a statutory public holiday after independence reflects the country’s commitment to religious freedom and peaceful coexistence.
“Ghana’s strength lies in our religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” she stressed.
The legislator urged Muslims to observe the festival in peace and harmony while extending support to vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, persons with disabilities, and struggling families.
Contributing to the statement, the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori, Mustapha Ussif, praised the values associated with Eid-ul-Adha, describing the occasion as a season of sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and gratitude.
“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the unwavering faith and devotion of Prophet Abraham,” the MP said. “It teaches us the values of sincerity, sacrifice, patience, and total trust in one Creator.”
He urged Muslims worldwide to strengthen their faith, promote unity, and extend love and kindness to their neighbours and the less privileged during the festivities.
The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Rashid Pelpuo, in his contribution to the statement, noted that Eid-ul-Adha serves as a reminder for humanity to obey divine principles through service to one another and commitment to the common good.
He explained that true obedience to Allah in modern society is reflected in how people treat their neighbours, support one another, and contribute positively to national development.
Mr. Pelpuo linked the Eid celebration to the spiritual significance of Mount Arafat and the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, stressing that Muslims worldwide use the occasion for worship, soul-searching, and the renewal of faith.
He urged Ghanaians to use the festival as an opportunity to unite and strengthen national cohesion.
