The Ministry of Health has confirmed that payment of three months’ outstanding arrears owed to the 2020 batch of nurses and midwives has been processed.
The announcement is expected to bring relief to thousands of affected health workers across the country who had raised concerns over delays in the payment of their arrears.
In a statement issued on May 27, the Ministry said the payments scheduled for May 2026 had been executed in line with the timeline earlier communicated by the Ministry of Finance.

According to the Ministry, the move forms part of efforts to address concerns surrounding the welfare of nurses and midwives employed under the 2020 batch.
Despite the progress, the Ministry acknowledged that some workers had reported not receiving the full amount expected under the three-month arrears arrangement.
It described such cases as isolated and assured the affected individuals that measures were already underway to rectify the situation.
“The Ministry of Health is working closely with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to resolve the issue and to ensure that payments are made to these individuals, in addition to their June scheduled payments,” portions of the statement said.
The Ministry further commended nurses and midwives across the country for their patience, dedication, and continued commitment to healthcare delivery despite the delays.
The issue of delayed salaries, arrears, and conditions of service has remained a major concern among health sector workers in recent years, with several professional groups repeatedly calling for reforms to improve worker welfare.
The Ministry indicated that further updates on the payment process and unresolved concerns would be communicated in due course.
