Former Jubilee House communications official Yaw Preko has mounted a strong defence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, describing him as one of the most dedicated figures within the party despite what he calls persistent hostility and contagious hatred directed at him.
In a detailed Facebook post, Preko, who previously served as Deputy Director of Communications under the Akufo-Addo administration, reflected on Gabby Otchere-Darko’s long-standing behind-the-scenes contributions to the NPP during both opposition and government.
He recounted a recent conversation with a senior party official who praised Gabby’s responsiveness and commitment, including a claim that he once replied to a party-related email at about 1:50 a.m. shortly after receiving it.

According to Preko, such instances highlight Gabby’s continued dedication to party affairs despite not holding an official position within the party structure.
“The same people you are denying yourself sleep for are poisoned with lies to hate you,” Preko wrote, lamenting what he described as unfair public perceptions of the political strategist.
He argued that although many within the NPP privately acknowledge Gabby Otchere-Darko’s contributions to both the party and the Akufo-Addo administration, they are often unwilling to publicly defend him due to fear of political backlash.
Preko further described Gabby as a key advocate for maintaining strong links between the party and government after the NPP assumed power in 2017.
“My post is not to judge what he was able to achieve in his efforts or not able to achieve, but the commitment to see us succeed,” he stated.
He also noted that political environments often discourage open support for controversial figures, even where individuals believe criticisms levelled against them are unfair.
Preko insisted his comments were based on personal experience within both government and party structures, adding that Gabby’s influence, sacrifices, and internal role were widely recognised among insiders.
Gabby Otchere-Darko, a lawyer and long-time political strategist closely associated with former President Nana Akufo-Addo, remains a divisive figure within sections of the NPP and broader Ghanaian political discourse.
