Businessman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Francis Mensah has emerged as the overwhelming favourite to become the next Constituency Chairman of the party in Gomoa East ahead of Saturday’s constituency executive elections.

According to his campaign team, more than 1,250 of the constituency’s 1,505 delegates, excluding constituency executives, Council of Elders/Patrons and electoral area executives, have declared their support for Mr. Mensah in the keenly contested race against Nana Fredua Agyemang Prempeh.

The NPP is expected to elect new constituency executives on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of its nationwide reorganisation exercise aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Widely referred to by supporters as the delegates’ “darling boy,” Francis Mensah is no stranger to the party’s grassroots structures. He has served as a polling station organiser, polling station chairman and currently holds the position of Constituency Treasurer.

His supporters believe his long-standing service and accessibility have earned him the trust of delegates across the constituency.

A key feature of Mr. Mensah’s campaign is his proposed Constituency Welfare Scheme, which he says will provide structured financial support to party members during major life events, including marriages, bereavement, prolonged hospitalisation and surgery.

Under the proposal, each polling station executive would contribute GH¢5 to support members during marriage ceremonies and GH¢10 in cases involving the death of a parent, spouse or up to two children. Additional special contributions would be mobilised to assist polling station executives facing extended hospitalisation or the loss of their lives.

According to Mr. Mensah, the initiative could generate approximately GH¢7,525 and GH¢15,050 respectively, with a portion of the contributions paid into a dedicated Welfare Fund to be managed by an appointed administrator.

Speaking during one of his engagements with delegates, he said the welfare scheme would foster unity and ensure party members are not left to face personal challenges alone.

“The welfare scheme will strengthen the bonds of fellowship within the Gomoa East Constituency and ensure that no polling station executive or member stands alone in times of need,” he stated.

Mr. Mensah also believes improving members’ welfare will motivate party faithful to work harder for the NPP, knowing the party will support them during difficult times.

Beyond welfare, the chairmanship hopeful has pledged to spearhead the construction of a permanent constituency office through collaboration with stakeholders, including Nana Kow Enyinda, who has reportedly donated land for the project.

Presenting architectural drawings of the proposed office during his campaign tour, Mr. Mensah described the project as critical to the party’s future electoral success.

“Getting a befitting party office is not a wish; it is a necessity for victory in 2028. I will collaborate with all well-meaning party faithful to build a befitting party office for our dear constituency,” he said.

Mr. Mensah has further promised to empower ten people from each electoral area in the constituency, saying the initiative would complement the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed employment opportunities if the party returns to power.

He also pledged to ensure fairness in the distribution of jobs, contracts and development opportunities while strengthening the constituency’s communications machinery to improve party engagement.

Delegates will decide on Saturday whether Francis Mensah’s vision and grassroots appeal will earn him the mandate to lead the NPP in Gomoa East for the next four years.
