Pressure group, Volta Renaissance Forum (VRF), has made a passionate appeal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to ensure equitable representation of the Volta Region in the incoming administration.
The Forum argued people of the Volta Region have unswervingly kept faith with the NDC over the years and emphatically demonstrated the same commitment by giving the NDC 90.11% of the presidential votes.
In a press statement signed by Conqueror Mawudzo Korto, spokesperson for the VRF the Forum commended the NDC for its decisive victory in the December 7, 2024, general elections.
Calls for fairness in appointments
The VRF urged NDC leadership and the president-elect to prioritize individuals who genuinely represent the aspirations of the Volta Region as lobbying for government positions intensifies.
The statement outlined key criteria for appointing representatives from the region, including:
1. Ensuring fairness and equitable representation.
2. Selecting individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the party and the region.
3. Prioritizing candidates with firsthand understanding of the region’s developmental challenges.
4. Avoiding the appointment of individuals who engage with the region only when it serves their personal interests.
It warned it will resist any attempt to foist persons on the region whose relationship cannot be ascertained and who cannot represent the dreams and aspirations of the people.
Concerns over regional development
The Forum expressed frustrations over the lack of significant development in the Volta Region despite its unwavering support for the NDC and emphasized the need for targeted developmental efforts to address longstanding challenges.
“It is painful and demanding when the NPP always tries to accuse the people of the Volta Region of supporting the NDC, even in the absence of any meaningful development projects,” Korto lamented.
Forum’s call for action
He called on Voltarians, both home and abroad, to remain vigilant and united in advocating for the region’s development under the incoming government.
“We are confident the leadership of the party and the President-Elect, H.E John Dramani Mahama, will reason with us and listen to our call to keep the trust and hope that the region continues to have in the NDC,” Korto stressed.
He called for unity and collaboration to realize the Volta Region’s long-awaited growth and development.
