Professor Kwesi Aning, a renowned security consultant, has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of orchestrating eight years of intense intimidation and threats aimed at silencing his professional work.
According to him, he used to speak and write freely, going to bed without worry, however, in the past eight years he has endured threats to his livelihood, attempts to discredit his person and work, and even efforts to pressure his former employers into dismissing me.
“It has been a hellish period,” he lamented.
Prof. Aning’s lamentation
Speaking on Starr FM in Accra, Professor Aning stressed how these actions hindered his ability to provide candid security analysis.
The threats, which included warnings about salary cuts and other punitive actions, significantly disrupted his peace of mind and professional contributions.
He lamented the stark contrast between his earlier career, during which he could operate without fear, and the environment cultivated under the current administration.
Professor Aning expressed optimism for a shift in approach under the next government.
He stated, “My primary expectation is to work in an environment free from intimidation, where I can contribute to national security without fear of reprisal.”
Notably, this is not the first time the Professor has raised concerns about threats tied to his work.
In 2018, he disclosed receiving menacing messages in response to his media commentary on security matters.
