Black Queens kick off WAFCON 2025 Campaign against South Africa today

Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, begin their quest for continental glory today, July 7, as they face South Africa in their opening game of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025 in Morocco. 

The crucial Group B encounter will take place at the Honneur Stadium in Oudja, marking Ghana’s first step toward clinching a long-awaited WAFCON title. South Africa, the defending champions, pose a stern test for the Queens, who are determined to make a strong impression at the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the full match schedule ahead of the tournament, which officially kicked off on Saturday, July 5, with hosts Morocco taking on Zambia at the newly constructed Olympic Stadium in Rabat at 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT). 

After facing South Africa, the Black Queens will continue their Group B campaign with matches against Mali on Friday, July 12, and Tanzania on Wednesday, July 17. Both fixtures will be held at the Berkane Stadium in the city of Berkane. 

The top teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the tournament culminating in the final on July 26, 2025, also at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. 

The Black Queens, seeking their first-ever WAFCON trophy, are hopeful this year’s squad can break new ground and bring home silverware.
