President Kufuor mourns Omane Boamah, others in helicopter tragedy

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

In a solemn statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Mr. Kufuor joined the nation in mourning the national tragedy, describing the loss as shocking and painful. The deceased were on their way to perform a national duty when the military helicopter they were travelling in crashed shortly after takeoff from Accra.

“With all humility, I join the nation to mourn the shocking passing of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the six others who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash today,” the former President stated.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and the government, urging the nation to honour the victims by embracing unity and a renewed commitment to national service.

“May we honour their memory by striving for compassion, unity and common purpose in serving our nation, GHANA,” Mr. Kufuor added.

Meanwhile, the government has declared three days of national mourning and ordered all flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the fallen public servants.
