The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly former executives, to recognize Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s efforts in broadening the party’s decision-making process and to reward him with their support at the polls.

Speaking at a gathering of party members, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah expressed delight at the strong participation of senior officials and past executives, noting that their involvement was the direct outcome of constitutional reforms that expanded the party’s democratic space.

“I am very happy this afternoon because I have seen some of the party’s big men who previously would not have attended meetings like this. In my own constituency, I have seen former vice chairmen, former deputy organisers, and former regional secretaries—many people who, if we were still using our old constitution, wouldn’t have come,” he remarked.

The legislator explained that the reforms stemmed from extensive nationwide consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures. He recalled touring all 276 constituencies with a committee to engage grassroots leaders and solicit ideas for constitutional amendments.

According to him, one of the most significant reforms was the inclusion of ordinary members and former executives in the party’s decision-making process.

“One of the key reforms we introduced was to give you the privilege to cast your vote. Even if tomorrow you are no longer an executive, you can still take part in party discussions. This is because we made provisions to include former executives in the decision-making process,” he explained.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that the reforms were shaped by broad consultation with party stalwarts, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“And I say this before God, with a clear conscience: one person who played a decisive role in ensuring that our former executives are part of today’s gathering is Dr. Bawumia. The positive ideas and goodwill you have brought have greatly helped to strengthen our unity,” he said.
