A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, urging the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, citing alleged mismanagement and lack of transparency.

Petition

The petition, submitted on Monday by Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, alleges that the EC leadership has failed to uphold internal governance standards, negatively impacting staff morale and operational efficiency.

Adumadzie claims the conduct of the three senior officials undermines the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system. He states that the petition, grounded in Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, is based on 12 counts of stated misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.

“Our actions are driven solely by the need to safeguard the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance. The integrity and independence of the Electoral Commission are essential for a credible democratic system,” Adumadzie said.

The petitioner is urging immediate intervention to restore public confidence in the EC, especially with upcoming elections on the horizon.

While the full details of the petition have not been disclosed, Adumadzie emphasized that the allegations are serious and require urgent attention.

Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission have not publicly responded to the petition yet, but the development comes amid growing scrutiny of the EC and its operations in the lead-up to Ghana’s 2025 elections.
