The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has praised the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) for its critical role in strengthening Ghana’s democracy, transparency, and parliamentary accountability.

According to him, the evolving partnership between Parliament and the media under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is a sign of things getting better.

He made the remarks at Parliament’s Media Soiree and Recognition Night held last Friday to honour members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC).

Calling the event special and auspicious, Mr. Djietror noted that the renewed engagement reflects Parliament’s commitment to openness and modern democratic governance.

“This gathering is special… I see a lot of improvement, and it is a sign to all of us that it is getting better and will get better under the dispensation of the Right Honourable Speaker,” he said.

The Clerk referred to the Speaker’s initials ‘A-S-K’ as symbolic of his availability and depth of parliamentary experience.

“Whatever you don’t understand… ask Bagbin. That is the truth,” he said, stressing the Speaker’s decades of institutional knowledge and leadership since 1993.

He emphasised that the Speaker’s leadership has strengthened parliamentary democracy, enhanced transparency and aligned with initiatives such as Open Parliament and Open Government Partnership, all aimed at bringing Parliament closer to citizens.

Mr. Djietror reaffirmed the PPC’s constitutional importance in informing the public and bridging the gap between Parliament and citizens.

“The Parliamentary Press Corps has a critical mandate to serve as a bridge between Parliament and the people of Ghana. As we deepen constructive engagement with the public, it is appropriate that this interaction takes place so we can engage better and relate better,” he stated.

He encouraged journalists to continue ensuring accurate parliamentary communication, reflection on their work, and stronger professional collaboration with Parliamentary Service staff.

The Clerk noted that the event provides an opportunity to clarify concerns, ask questions, and improve understanding of parliamentary processes.

“This evening allows us to relate better… to reflect on our roles, bridge gaps faster, and ensure Parliament is brought closer to the doorstep of the people,” he said.

He expressed confidence that both Parliament and the media would continue to strengthen their roles going into the coming year.
