Interior Ministry warns offenders as gun amnesty deadline approaches

The Ministry for the Interior has called on individuals in possession of unregistered or illegal firearms to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide gun amnesty and voluntarily surrender their weapons before the January 15, 2026, deadline.

The Ministry says anyone who submits an illegal weapon within the amnesty period will not face prosecution.

However, it cautioned that security agencies will embark on intensified operations after the deadline to retrieve remaining illegal firearms, and offenders will face arrest and legal action.

Delivering his Christmas message, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak encouraged citizens to submit illegal weapons at any police station across the country within the stipulated period.

He emphasized that the initiative is aimed at reducing the proliferation of illegal arms, strengthening national security, protecting lives, and promoting social stability.

He stressed that sustainable development is anchored on peace and security, and urged the public to support efforts to maintain law and order.

The Minister highlighted that the amnesty provides a lawful opportunity for individuals to dispose of illegal weapons without fear of prosecution.
