Muslims across Ghana have begun observing the holy month of fasting, reflection, and spiritual renewal, joining millions of believers worldwide in marking one of Islam’s most sacred periods.

The start of Ramadan in Ghana ushers in a season of devotion, self-discipline, and compassion, as worshippers abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset while dedicating more time to prayer, charity, and personal reflection.

Across communities, families are strengthening bonds and deepening social ties through shared worship and acts of kindness. Muslim leaders have consistently reminded believers that Ramadan goes beyond physical fasting and focuses on spiritual growth and moral conduct.

“It is a period for self-purification, patience, and generosity towards others,” a leading Islamic cleric noted, urging worshippers to reflect on their actions and contribute positively to society.

Markets and mosques have become busy with preparations, as households stock up on dates, fruits, and essential items for evening meals. Many mosques have also organised special prayer sessions and Quranic recitations to encourage collective worship.

Charitable activities have intensified during the month, with individuals and groups donating food and supplies to support vulnerable members of society. These initiatives reflect the strong sense of communal responsibility associated with Ramadan in Ghana.

Each evening, Muslims break their fast with the iftar meal, often shared with family, friends, and neighbours, reinforcing the values of unity, generosity, and mutual support that define the holy month.
