The senior national football team, the Black Stars, will take on Mexico in an international friendly in May as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The much-anticipated Ghana vs Mexico friendly will provide both nations with the opportunity to assess players ahead of the global showpiece, which will be hosted in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Ghana’s squad is expected to feature a blend of locally-based players, Europe-based professionals, and selected U-23 stars. Head coach Otto Addo will use the match to evaluate emerging talents and strengthen team cohesion.

The friendly is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at a venue yet to be confirmed in Mexico. It comes ahead of two additional preparatory matches planned before the World Cup tournament.

This fixture brings Ghana’s total preparatory games to three, following earlier announcements of friendlies against Austria and Germany in March. Addo and his technical team are expected to unveil the squad for those matches in the coming days.

The Ghana vs Mexico friendly forms part of a broader strategy to fine-tune the squad and build momentum ahead of the competition.

Mexico will open its World Cup campaign against South Africa, while the Black Stars will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.

With expectations high, both teams will be eager to use the friendly fixtures to sharpen their tactics and make a strong statement ahead of the global tournament.
