The government has officially restored the name of Accra International Airport, reverting it from Kotoka International Airport, the Ministry of Transport has announced.

In a statement issued on February 23, 2026, the Ministry of Transport (Ghana) said the decision reinstates the facility’s former and internationally recognised name, which it bore before it was redesignated decades ago.

The Ministry assured the public that the renaming will have no impact on airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements, emphasising that all aviation services will continue without disruption.

It further noted that, in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s records, the airport’s code has consistently remained “ACC”, highlighting continuity within global aviation systems.

According to the statement, the transition to Accra International Airport will be carried out through a structured and coordinated process, involving updates to official documentation, statutory instruments where required, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and related communication materials.

The Ministry called on the general public, industry stakeholders, and international partners to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

The Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Transport expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration, stressing that the renaming exercise forms part of efforts to align Ghana’s aviation infrastructure with international standards and historical identity.
